Eligibility
  1. An individual of foreign nationality, who has never held Republic of China (“R.O.C.”) citizenship and who does not possess an Overseas Chinese student status at the time of his/her application is qualified to apply.

 

  1. An individual of foreign nationality, pursuant to the following requirements i.e., who has resided overseas continuously for no less than 6 years is qualified to apply for admission. The six year calculation period as prescribed shall be calculated to the starting date of the semester (Feb. 1st or Aug. 1st ). The term “overseas” as prescribed is limited to countries or regions other than Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau; the term “  reside overseas continuously” means that an individual may stay in Taiwan for no more than a total of 120 days per calendar year.

 

  1. An applicant of foreign nationality, concurrently holding a permanent residence status in Hong Kong or Macao, having no history of a household registration record in Taiwan and, at the time of application, who has resided in Hong Kong, Macao, or another foreign country continuously for no less than 6 years, is qualified for admission. The term “reside overseas continuously” mentioned in the preceding paragraph means that an individual may had stayed in Taiwan previously for no more than a total of 120 days per calendar year.

 

  1. An applicant who was a former citizen of Mainland China and holds a foreign nationality, having no history of household registration record in Taiwan, and at the time of application, who has resided overseas continuously for no less than 6 years, is qualified for admission. The term “reside overseas continuously” means that an individual may have stayed in Taiwan for no more than a total of 120 days per calendar year.

 

  1. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply for the master’s programs; applicants with a master’s degree are eligible to apply for the doctoral programs.

 

  1. For student who tends to direct pursuit the Ph.D. degree, the eligibility of is based on the rule of “direct pursuit of the Ph.D. degree (Bachelor)” of NTHU or the rule of “direct pursuit of the Ph.D. degree (Master)” of NTHU. In addition, the applicant must be recommended by at least two professors from previous department or related departments. Finally, the application must be approved by the graduate school of the Department of Engineering and System Science. Notes:

 

  1. During the course of study in Taiwan, international students, who have applied and are approved for initial household registration, resident registration, naturalization or restoration of their ROC nationality, will lose their international student status and shall withdraw from school.

 

  1. International students who withdraw from university due to behavior issues, poor academic performance or a conviction under the Criminal Code may not thereafter apply again for admission under "MOE Regulation Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan".

 

  1. The application eligibility is based on "MOE Regulation Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan". If the MOE Regulations were revised, the most updated MOE Regulations shall prevail. For the latest information regarding the MOE Regulations, please visit MOE website at http://www.edu.tw

 

  1. Violation of the “MOE Regulation” will result in immediate cancellation of the applicant’s admission or the deprivation of the applicant’s recognized status as NTHU registered student. No academic certificate will be given.
